98TH BRITISH OPEN SPRING FESTIVAL
2018 is already proving to be a memorable year for Oldham Band (Lees). After being crowned North West Regional 1st Section Champions in February, it was a triumphant return to the Winter Gardens on 12 May as the band stormed to victory, winning the Senior Cup. Playing the demanding Diadem of Gold (G. Bailey arr Frank Wright) MD John Collins said "I still can't believe we have won the Senior Cup! This is the biggest win in the band's history. I knew the band was playing well and everyone has given 100% commitment in the lead up to the contest but it was such a hard piece to play. Special mention has to go to Ben on sop who gave a phenomenal performance but every member of the band played their part perfectly on the day. This is an incredible result!".
4barsrest said of the performance: "The Lancastrians certainly relished their 'Diadem' reading today and it was one that epitomised the hallmarks of the ensemble they have become. Full bloodied, purposeful and intense, nothing was left on stage as the players gave their all".
It's now straight back to rehearsals as the band prepares for the Whit Friday Band Contest on Friday 25 May.
